Club Admin and Bookkeeper
Why did you decide to volunteer with the MITCNC?
In 2013, I was asked by Elizabeth Ng, who is like a second mother to me, to help MITCNC with accounting work since I worked at a CPA firm in socal before moving back up here when I got married. I wasn’t sure how I would fit in with such a bright group of people, but after giving it a shot, I haven’t looked back.
Tell us a bit about your role with the MITCNC. What are your responsibilities in this position?
What I thought was accounting work became much more through the years as I work with different presidents of the club. Because each president’s term is two years, I am able to provide some continuity between transition periods. The main goal is to support the club in any way I can so the volunteers can focus on what they do best. I handle anything the club needs from creating an event page on the website/Eventbrite to managing the overall logistics of an event. And I still also take care of the books of the club and make sure bills and reimbursements are issued.
What exciting things can we expect to see from your area of focus in the coming months? (e.g., social events, speakers, etc.)
The club is as active as it’s ever been (at least since I’ve been with the club) and I’m really excited for the next few months with the Tech Conference and Spotlight.
Describe one of your most memorable MIT moments.
All club events are memorable to me, but one that sticks out is the 2017 Conference and Spotlight. It was one of the longest days of my career, but one of the greatest because of the magnitude of that day. With the conference all day and Spotlight that evening, there were a million things to keep track of and manage. I couldn’t be prouder of what we pulled off.
