This is a joint hike with the Harvard Clubs of San Francisco and Silicon Valley
Description:
Rising steeply to the east of the city of Fremont, Mission and Monument peaks form a dramatic backdrop to the South Bay. The determined and conditioned hiker who reaches the top of Mission Peak will be rewarded with views of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast. Hawks and vultures share the summit airspace with sailplanes riding the thermals, and a down-to-earth herd of feral goats roams the cliffs. The Peak Trail from Ohlone College is an enjoyable hike to the summit that passes a horse corral and through shaded woodlands and open grasslands.

What to Bring:
This is a strenuous hike. Have a good breakfast and bring snacks. The trail has relatively little shade so sunblock and a hat are recommended. Bring plenty of water (at least 2 quarts per person) as none is available beyond the trailhead. It can be breezy at the top so dress in layers. Pack a lunch to eat at the summit.
Directions:
Take exit 16 (Mission Blvd.)from I-680 in Fremont. Head south on Mission Blvd toward Mission San Jose about 1 mile to Ohlone College. Turn left on Pine St. and park in the parking structure on the left just past the baseball field and tennis courts. Walk across the street and follow the Mission Peak Trail Access signs to the trail head. We will follow the Peak Trail to the summit. One can return following the Peak Trail back down to the starting point or loop back on the Grove Trail to its junction with the Peak Trail for a slightly longer but more scenic route.
