MITCNC Event
20th Annual Cycling Trip to Tiburon
Sep 23

Please try to register at least 3 days in advance, if possible.  This will help the organizer, and will be much appreciated.  Ride one of the most beautiful routes in the country and have intelligent conversation (it can't be helped) along the way.  But wait - there's more... Food! We set up the schedule to have a leisurely lunch close to Tiburon's ferry.  And it's as easy as riding a bike.  Join us for the 20th Annual MITCNC bike trip for both the dedicated and the leisurely type bike riders.  Both the advanced and recreational routes start at Pier 41. The recreational route is about 17 miles long, and goes through the aquatic park, Fort Mason, Presidio Park, over the Golden Gate bridge, downtown Sausalito and then near the water all the way to Tiburon.  The advanced route is significantly longer, totaling about 37 miles.  This route is similar to the recreational route, except it also passes through Corte Madre, Larkspur, and Kentfield.  Please indicate in your RSVP if you are interested in this longer route.

For your reference, here are maps for both routes:
Recreational:  http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/138264964
Advanced:      http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/139735029

Both groups should arrive in Tiburon by 2:30, leaving time for a leisurely lunch (self-hosted).  The following options are available (all within a few doors from where we will be parking our bikes):
1)    Sam’s Café:  an outside patio ($)
2)    Guaymas's Restaurant (Mexican, nice outside patio) ($)

Please note that we will be arriving during the lunch rush (count on at least 1 hour to get lunch completed).  If you are running late (e.g., mechanical problems causing you to arrive late and are concerned about missing the ferry), the following lunch options are available:
3)    Waypoint pizza (they sell pizza by the slide) ($)
4)    Caffee Acri (they sell packed sandwiches) ($)

We will be aiming to taking the 4:05pm ferry.  The ferry ticket for adults is $12.50, for children $7.50. Ferry schedule can be found in:
http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/ferry/tiburon/

For those who don't have bikes, you can rent bikes and helmets at the Blazing Saddles store at Pier 41.  Their phone number is (415) 202-8888 and their web page is http://www.blazingsaddles.com/.  The bike rentals run around $32-$80 day depending on what type of bike you want. Relatively inexpensive parking in the area can be found at Pier 29, and Green and Embarcadero.

Additional items to bring:
- Water (at least 2 liters per person and some snack)
- Snack for the ride
- Sunblock
- Cash for expenses outlined (ferry, lunch and if applicable a bike)
- Helmet
- Bike lock
- Light jacket for the ferry ride back
- Great smile and fantastic attitude

Just a gentle reminder, please remember to eat before engaging in strenuous exercise.  Please have breakfast before this ride.

The MIT Club of Northern California and organizers do not assume any responsibility for any personal injuries or property damage suffered during this event.  Cycling is a sport that has inherent risks.  Each participant is entirely responsible for being aware of these risks and taking necessary precautions.  We require that all cyclists submit a signed liability waiver, which we will provide to those who RSVP.  We will also have a limited number of liability waiver forms available to fill out on the day of the event.  Every cyclist must wear a helmet.
