J-PAL: A mens et manus Approach to Combating Poverty
Sep 21 - Virtual Event

Vincent Quan is the co-executive director of J-PAL North America (based at MIT), a regional office of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), where he leads the North America team's efforts to reduce poverty by ensuring policy is informed by rigorous evidence. J-PAL is a global network of researchers who use randomized evaluations to answer critical policy questions in the fight against poverty. To date, programs evaluated by J-PAL's research network have reached over 540 million people around the world.

In this talk and live Q&A, Vincent will give an overview of J-PAL North America, their approach to combating poverty and improving policy in the United States, and how they impact people here in the Bay Area. During the talk, Vincent will share examples of how they are using data and research to improve educational outcomes for low-income students* and address homelessness** in the region.

We look forward to having you join us for this discussion!

*The Biden administration recently announced that it will be launching a national effort to support student success through high-quality tutoring, which directly builds on J-PAL North America's tutoring research and policy outreach.

**J-PAL North America is currently partnering with Google.org to research the impact of cash transfers to reduce homelessness.
