Ed Roberts- How MIT's Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Impacted the World

Join us on Thursday, January 14 2021 at 7PM (EST) for a discussion with Edward Roberts, the David Sarnoff Professor of Management of Technology at MIT's Sloan School for a look at the past, present, and future of entrepreneurship at MIT.

Edward Roberts has 4 degrees from MIT: SB, SM in EE, 1958; SM in Management, 1960; PhD in Economics, 1962. He has been an MIT Faculty member since 1961, and has been the David Sarnoff Professor of Management of Technology since 1974.

About the Speaker

Prof. Roberts is the co-founder of many MIT programs, including: System Dynamics (under Jay Forrester), MIT Research Program on Management of R&D and Technological Innovation (with Donald Marquis), PhD Program in Healthcare Policy and Management (co-chair), MIT Whittaker College of Health Sciences, Technology and Management (Associate Director), MIT Management of Technology (MOT) Degree Program (co-founder and Director), Biomedical Enterprise Program (co-founder), MIT Sloan Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management Group (founder and long-time chair). MIT Entrepreneurship Center (now the Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship) (founder and chair), MIT Sloan Entrepreneurship & Innovation Track (founder and now co-chair). He has just been awarded the Legacy Award “for a lifetime of pioneering entrepreneurship” by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers.

He is also the author, co-author or editor of 16 books. His most recent is Celebrating Entrepreneurs: How MIT Nurtured Pioneering Entrepreneurs Who Built Great Companies (Amazon Books, 2020), and has authored or co-authored over 150 journal articles.

Roberts is the co-founder of many startup companies, including: Pugh-Roberts Associates, Zero-Stage Capital, Medical Information Technology (Meditech), AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Sohu.com. He has also been a member of the board for 30 companies, and an angel investor in more than 150 companies.

To support the Institute's efforts to support future entrepreneurs, Roberts will donate all author’s proceeds from Celebrating Entrepreneurs to support entrepreneurship programs at MIT! Find out more about the book here.
