Anxiety and Depression are on the rise among America’s youth. Even before the pandemic, from 2016 to 2019, anxiety increased by 27% and depression increased by 24%, according to the CDC. The trend has continued beyond the pandemic. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition to affect teenagers. At age 13, about 8% of U.S. teens have a diagnosable anxiety disorder.

Similarly, Eating Disorders (ED) are more rampant and more severe than ever before. ED related Hospitalizations doubled for adolescent girls during the pandemic. Even post-pandemic, the situation has not improved. Anorexia Nervosa has the highest mortality rate (~ 10%) of any mental disorder.  Yet, only 10% of people with eating disorders get treatment due to stigma and lack of access to treatment.

As parents, it's imperative that we understand these conditions, know how to detect them early, and take action to avoid escalation.

Join us for this two part discussion for parents of teens, presented by clinical experts, parents, and students. In each virtual session, we will cover

Part  1 – Anxiety and Depression – what to know, what to look for, what to do?

Part  2 – Eating Disorders (Separate event)
