RICHARD WONG is responsible for the overall direction, and P&L management of Products and Solutions at Openwave. In this capacity, Mr. Wong helped to grow Openwave to a $500M annual topline, and launch several of OPWV?s most successful new products in areas such as security (anti-abuse), integrated messaging, and location-based services technology. As SVP/GM, he leads Openwave?s product development, product management, product marketing, and market development across broadband and wireless technologies. Prior to his current role, Mr. Wong was the SVP/GM of Openwave?s $200M Messaging Products Group, and led Openwave?s entry into the security business, launching the anti-abuse line of products, and founding the industry organization www.maawg.org, (Messaging Anti Abuse Group ? founding chairman). Mr. Wong joined Openwave in January of 2001, as SVP Worldwide Marketing (CMO) following the merger of Software.com and Phone.com to form Openwave. Prior to joining Openwave, Rich was the CMO and EVP/GM of Value-Added Services at Covad Communications, the nationwide DSL company, leading the product management, channel marketing, developer relations, and branding/communications organizations. Preceding Covad, he was an Engagement Manager in the San Francisco office of consulting firm McKinsey & Co, focusing on consumer and software clients. Rich was also a Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble, where he managed the P/L and leading marketing and general management for several of P&G's brands. Mr. Wong holds a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management, as a Ronald Kurtz Fellow. |
